Welcome, I'm Michaelyn Shumway

Hello! I am truly honored you’ve found your way here. Beginning the journey toward mental wellness is a courageous choice, and I am here to ensure you never have to navigate it alone. Working in mental health has been close to my heart for as long as I can remember — it truly runs in the family. My dad’s a therapist, and I’ve always been drawn to helping others navigate life’s challenges with compassion, insight, and evidence-based care.

I graduated with honors in all of my degrees and was at the top of my class in my master’s program. But beyond the credentials, I’m a real person who understands what it’s like to struggle, to heal, and to grow. That’s why I bring a grounded, authentic approach to the care I provide.

My path began early — I started volunteering with hospice as a teenager — and this further fueled my desire to help others, which evolved into a career in psychiatric nursing. I've worked in inpatient psychiatric units, community clinics, and in outpatient services. These experiences help me to gain in-depth knowledge on how to treat a wide range of individuals and mental health conditions.

Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, insomnia, or other mental health conditions, I’m here to meet you where you are. I believe in creating a personalized plan that fits your unique needs and can evolve with you. For some, that includes medication as a short-term tool; for others, it becomes a key part of long-term well-being. I understand that deciding to take medication can be a big step, and I’m here to talk through your options openly and respectfully.

I am only one person on your care team. I understand that this journey is yours, and I want to work collaboratively with you and your support system (friends, family, therapists, other medical providers, etc) with the goal of helping you to achieve your goals and experience peace and a fuller, more engaged life.

Credentials & Training

Advanced Education

Master of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health from Graceland University, focused on clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Board Certification

National board certification (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, ensuring the highest standards of professional therapy training.

Approach & Philosophy

My practice is rooted in a holistic, person-centered philosophy. I believe that mental health is more than the absence of illness; it is the presence of wellness. By combining evidence-based pharmacological treatments with compassionate psychotherapy, I strive to treat the whole person rather than just a set of symptoms.

I am committed to working collaboratively with you to identify the biological and psychological factors affecting your well-being. My goal is to empower you with the tools and insights needed to navigate your unique path toward recovery and sustainable mental health.

Outside the Clinic Walls

Outside of my professional life, I’m a lifelong learner, an avid reader, occasional gamer, amateur crafter, and—depending on who you ask—a bit of a collector. Some might call it being a geek, but I see it as passion. Whether it's your niche interest or mine, I think those little joys are what make life richer and more fun. When I’m not diving into a new book or trying out a new hobby, you might find me dreaming up my next traveling adventure. The next goal is to visit Europe. Just like anyone else, I’m doing my best to live a full, meaningful life—and I’d be honored to help you do the same
